NSW under-17 team have had a perfect start to both the girls Esther Deason Shield and boys Athur Allsopp Shield competitions.
Both teams claimed big wins in both of their games, flexing their muscles as the girls seek to defend the title for the fifth time, while the boys look to win it back from Queensland.
The NSW girls won 5-0 over South Australia in the morning session before running away with an 11-3 win over the ACT in the night session. Pitcher Emily Peters only went for one hit in 4.1 innings against South Australia with four strikeouts while Isabelle Hanna’s one run and two hits and Layhnee Kearnes’ two RBIs helped NSW home. It was in massive contrast to the match against the ACT with six runs in the first innings setting up the result.
The NSW boys scored a 12-2 win over Western Australia, as well as an 8-1 win over Victoria. Jeremy Garland was a standout in the match against WA with five RBIs from two hits and two runs, as well as pitching three innings with no hits. It was a team effort against Victoria, as the side hit four runs in the fourth innings to run away with the result.
While it was a great day for NSW, it was also a great day for Queensland, who are also undefeated with two wins apiece as well, setting both sides up as the early front-runners.
