Southern Districts breaks the drought

Southern Districts has broken an 8 year drought and won the 2018 NSW Open Men’s State Championship, the last time the green and gold team won the championship was 2009.

Going into the final undefeated the pressure was on Southern Districts to keep their record clean but it was Georges River who was gaining momentum coming into the game. After defeating Macarthur in the rounds and coming in 1st Southern Districts had to wait to see who they would face in the final. The showdown between Georges River and Macarthur didn’t disappoint with both teams throwing everything at each other. Despite some solid contact in the box by Macarthur it was the pitching of Bradley Kilpatrick that held the talented Macarthur lineup at bay with Georges River taking the game 3-2. to move into the final.

The final was a one sided affair with the Southern Districts boys jumping out of the box to lead 3 – 0 after the 1st innings and they only built on the score after that. The game finished in the 4th innings thanks to a massive home run to Steven Evic bringing in 3 runs and finishing the game 10-0. Shaun Lanaghan pitched a no hitter in the final and dominated the hitters.
