Penrith City U18 Men’s State Champions

Penrith City have gone through undefeated at the U18 Men’s State Championship to take the title of 2019 State Champions. 6 teams contested the much sought after state title over 2 days at Blacktown International Sportspark and it was clear from the outset that Penrith City and Macarthur were the teams to beat.

The major semi final saw the 2 top teams play for a place in the final with the Penrith City Team victorious over Macarthur. Orange and Georges River played an exciting game in the knock out semi with Orange coming out on top in the 11th innings 10 – 9. The preliminary final saw the Macarthur hitter find form and dominate the strong Orange lineup resulting in a 10 – 0 win and a rematch with Penrith City in the grand final.

The game was all tied up until the 3rd pitch of the 4th innings when Ethan Field put the ball over the centrefield fence for a homerun and Penrith City’s first run. The 5th innings saw Jeremy Garland lead off with a homerun and the Ethan Field followed up with his second homerun of the game to take the score to 3 – 0. Xander Ruggeri showed his speed as leadoff in the 6th with an infield homerun to take the Penrith City total to 4.

Macarthur were unable to claw back the 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th where the game ended after time.

The highlight of the game was the performance of Jeremy Garland on the mound with 12 K2s and only 2 hits in addition to his homerun and 2 walks in the Batter Box.

The win not only makes up for Penrith City’s loss in the 2018 championship but now puts them as the association that has won the most U18/U19 Men’s Championships with 9 titles.
