Softball NSW and Orange City Council are pleased to announce a new venue for the 2021 & 2022 Under 12s State Championships, with Sir Jack Brabham Park, Orange awarded the hosting rights for the annual event.
Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said he’s looking forward to welcoming competitors and their families to the event.
“The people of Orange are a very welcoming community and the opportunity to host this event for two years in a row is very good new,” Cr Reg Kidd said. “The Council has been gradually upgrading the facilities at Jack Brabham Park and hosting these events will be putting these facilities to the test.”
“While major events are under a cloud at present, it’s good to see that planning can go ahead for future years.”
“We thank Softball NSW for their support of the Orange City Community and look forward to these events taking place in 2021 and 2022.”
Orange City Council’s Sport & Recreation Committee chair, Cr Jason Hamling believes it will be a boost for the sport to host a major junior title event.
“Softball has been a very popular sport in Orange for many years, across the age-groups. State titles are routinely held in larger venues, so it’s going to be great for up and coming juniors to be able to see the best teams from across the state competing,” Cr Jason Hamling said.
SNSW Chief Executive Officer Daniel Rushworth said it was a significant undertaking to bring the event to the region.
“This particular area has always been big supporters of the Softball NSW Events and Pathways,” Daniel Rushworth said.
“For many years now, local participants have travelled east to participate and now in 2021 & 2022 – the event will be in their own back yard, which should be a tremendous advantage.
“To be able to bring a prestigious and important event like the Under 12s State Championships to the region is rewarding for those members, participants and families who have long supported this event and our pathway programs”
The 2021 Under 12s State Championships will be held on November 6th & 7th and the 2022 Under 12s State Championships will be November 5th & 6th.
The Orange Softball Association has a fantastic participation and community support and it is hoped that many will try their hand locally to push themselves towards this level. The venue itself set up well for an event such as the State Championships and is easily accessible to many participants right across the state.
Orange District Softball Association President Geoff Kelly is excited by the opportunity.
“Orange District Softball Association is proud to be granted the hosting rights for the 2021 U12 Softball State Championships in conjunction with Orange City Council. Not only is this a great development opportunity for our stars of tomorrow for the sport, but it will showcase the new amenities facility built by Orange City Council at Jack Brabham Park. This is also a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Orange region and what it has to offer visitors to the area.”
The Under 12s State Championships is an event that allows junior athletes from right across NSW to pit themselves against each other as the second step on the athlete pathway.
Rushworth estimates that with 1500 participants, officials, family and friends travelling in support to the destination, the event will deliver an expected economic impact of $800,000 into the local community.
“The ability for the event itself to deliver an economic impact into communities is really pleasing and is one of the attractions as to why Council’s such as the Orange City Council are interested in securing our events.” Rushworth said.
