Published Tue 11 Oct 2022

It is with great sadness that Softball NSW wishes to inform everyone that Scott Rindfleish passed away yesterday afternoon. He was 40.

A player, umpire and coach, Scott was hugely respected within New South Wales, nationally and internationally in the softball fraternity. He left his most significant impact and influence in umpiring, having spent over 20 years as Softball NSW Director of Umpiring until his death. Scott was instrumental in the training and development of umpires at all levels for over ten years, many of whom went on to achieve great success within and outside of Australia.

Originally from Sutherland Shire Softball Association, Scott moved to Softball Macarthur where he spent many years coaching various representative teams. His first international appointment came in 2003 at the Australian Under 19 Men's Test Series against Japan in Sydney, following which he went on to umpire at many international events in seven different countries including Australia, Canada, Micronesia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, USA and Venezuela.

Scott was appointed to four ISF World Championships including the 2008 ISF Under 19 Men's World Championship in Canada, the 2019 WBSC Men's World Championship in Prague, the 2013 ISF Open Men's World Championships in New Zealand and the 2010 ISF Open Women's World Championship in Venezuela.

Scott achieved his Australian Level 8 Accreditation in umpiring in 2010 and his ISF Accreditation #110 four years earlier. He received his Australian Cap #133 in 2004.

A winner of the Softball Australia Umpire of the Year Award in 2010, six-time winner of the Softball NSW Umpire of the Year Award and three-time winner of the Softball NSW Director’s Award, Scott was also inducted into the Softball NSW Hall of Fame last year at the Softball NSW Awards. He was also one of the inductees of the Softball Australia Hall of Fame last year. Scott received many other accolades in his long and illustrious career.

Softball NSW President Chris Hall noted: “Scott was someone all of us greatly admired for his success and brilliance on the diamond and his humility and kindness towards everyone. His career is a testament to how passionate he was towards the game, and on the behalf of the Board and staff at Softball NSW as well as everyone in the community, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his family Peter, Andrew, Susan, Adam and Kelly, as well as everyone who knew him.”
