When the NSW U18 Girls Team Found an Unlikely Fan from WA
Published Fri 10 Feb 2023
Earlier this year at the Under 18 Girls' National Championship held in Mirrabooka, WA, Amelia was among the many spectators who had come down to catch all the action. Alongside cheering for her own state WA, the 8-year-old was also very keen to get autographs of her favourite players.
That was when she saw NSW's very own Jayda Lorigan and Hannah Barlow on the diamond.
Amelia was instantly obsessed with our Blue Bloods and wasted no time in heading off to Kmart with her dad to buy a light blue shirt and dark blue hat. The NSW U18 Girls had found themselves a mascot for the remainder of their tournament. The team and their support staff including head coach Troy Baverstock ended up having a major impact on young Amelia, who now can't wait to get her winter season of netball out of the way to have a go at Softball.
We at Softball NSW wish Amelia well and also thank her father for sharing her story as well as reminding us why our sport is the best in the world.
