Passing of A Life Member - Neidra Hill OAM

Sofball NSW are saddened to hear of the passing of life member, Ms Neidra Hill OAM.
Neidra was involved in sport for over 50 years and in that time was instrumental in providing opportunities for children to participate in sport particularly softball for females
Neidra’s achievements were many including establishing a number of sporting clubs and associations in her local area. Neidra had also seen the need to provide a safe environment for participants and has fought many battles to ensure that government departments facilitate the improvement & development of local facilities.
- Established the Wagga Wagga Softball Association in 1969
- Established the White Sox Softball Club in Wagga Wagga in 1969
- Established the Macarthur Softball Association in 1975
- Established the Wanderers Club in 1975
- President of the Wanderers Club for 23 years
- President of the Macarthur Association for the 21 of the 31 years existence
- Established and President of the Sportz Braves Softball Club
SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARDS
Life Member Wanderers Softball Club, Macarthur Softball Association, NSW Softball Assoc.
1986 – Awarded the Australia Day Sports Award by Camden Council\
1990 – Awarded the Child Care Medal in Childrens Week
1994 – Senior Sportsperson - Australia Day Camden Council
2000 – Australia Medal for Contribution to Sport
2000 – AM in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for contribution to sport
2005 – Softball Australia Service Award
Neidra had also represented NSW as a player at the Open Level in Softball earning herself Cap no. 75 in 1960.
Neidra coached at a variety of levels from Teeball to Open Women’s at club and then moving onto representative teams from the Macarthur area. Neidra had been a mentor coach for many local female coaches where she ensures that they develop not only their softball skills but also life skills.
Neidra Hill was and always will be an icon to the development of softball in NSW.
