Manly Warringah Take the Honours at the 2022 U14 Girls State Championship

Published Mon 19 Sep 2022

Thirty-three top-quality games played out over the weekend at Jacquie Osmond Reserve, with Southern Districts Softball Association successfully hosting the 2022 Under 14 Girls State Championship at their home. Eight teams from around the state including an invitational side faced off at the event. In a season that was adversely affected by rough weather, this event had the unique feat of remaining unchanged from its originally proposed dates - exactly like the age category's Boys edition. The same was a testament to all the hard work that went into planning and hosting the event by Southern Districts.

Both Manly Warringah and Cumberland Nepean dominated day 1 remaining unbeaten in their four games, followed closely by Georges River, North Shore and Macarthur who registered two wins each. Manly continued their unbeaten run over their next four games on Sunday convincingly securing their Grand Final berth. Cumberland Nepean, on the other hand, bowed out to an 8-1 defeat to Manly before notching up three straight wins and joining the latter at the Grand Final at 3:30pm.

Manly Warringah wasted no time in asserting their domination at the big game, securing a 3-0 lead by the end of the fifth innings. Cumberland Nepean put on a spirited comeback in the bottom of the sixth innings, recording two runs before the game ended at 3-2. Manly Warringah claimed the title, bettering their performance last year where they finished runners-up.
