Macarthur/Georges River Claim Inaugural Over 45 Men's State Championship title
Published Mon 28 Nov 2022
The inaugural edition of the Over 45 Men's State Championship was nothing short of exciting and entertaining, with Blacktown International Sportspark hosting a great turnout of softballers, support staff and audience over the weekend. The event featured four teams - Campbelltown/Southern Districts, Cumberland Nepean, Macarthur/Georges River, and Newcastle, and was playing in conjunction with the inaugural Over 45 Women's State Championship.
Fifteen games were played in the two-day event, with all four teams comprising a fantastic mix of players who had always been a part of the game across club, state and national levels. While day 1 saw Newcastle display an impressive unbeaten run at the Championship with four wins, the tide turned around quite dramatically towards the end of day 2, with Macarthur/Georges River and Campbelltown/Southern Districts making a comeback and securing their Grand Final berths at their pre-final games.
Played at 4pm in front of a buzzing crowd at Diamond 1, the Grand Final saw Macarthur/Georges River continue their newly gained momentum in the Championship, registering a convincing 11-2 win over Campbelltown/Southern Districts to claim the title.
