Father's Day Special - Nathan, Brady, Carter & Tanner Shears

On Father's Day, we spoke to a few father-son duos from the sport to find out how they inspire and learn from each other. Here's Nathan Shears & his sons sharing their thoughts.

When was the first time your father inspired you to take up softball?
Brady: This was back when dad took me to Rego day.
Carter: I remember I was at my first game at 2 weeks old.
Tanner: This was back when I was 4, so that I wouldn’t annoy him.
What’s one thing about each other’s game that you’re envious of?
Nathan: I wish I had Brady’s arm when he throws, Carter’s determination, drive to succeed & Tanner’s glove when he is behind the plate catching
Brady: I’m envious of how competitive he is at all levels
Carter: I’ve always wanted to know how to play 1st base like dad.
Tanner: I wish I could play 1st base like dad.
What’s the best part about being a father/son duo in softball?
Nathan: It’s about being able to have fun and enjoy playing the sport we all love together, be it is all of us playing together or me coaching teams that they have played in and seeing the joy on their faces when they do things that they never thought they would do.
Brady: Winning state league together!
Carter: Playing club and winter league together.
Tanner: He was there for my first ever men’s game and laughed at me when I ran into the fence in the outfield.
What’s one thing about your sons’ playing that has impressed you the most?
Nathan: The way they have all grown and excelled in everything they have done up till now, whether it is exceeding at state championships or putting back and helping younger kids at club level.
What’s one skill that you’d love to pick up from your father?
Brady: To still be playing at his age and to still have the love of the sport.
Carter: To be able to hit the ball harder than him.
Tanner: To be able to play catcher like my dad.
