On Father's Day, we spoke to a few father-daughter duos from the sport to find out how they inspire and learn from each other. Here's Wayne Frost & his daughters sharing their thoughts.

When was the first time your father inspired you to take up softball?

Amber: I honestly don't think I had a choice in the matter of what sport I would play, it was sort of pre-decided that I would play since we were already involved in the community. Dad putting me into softball brought us closer through the endless training session commutes (involving car karaoke here and there!) and post-game harsh criticism which was just him being proud of me but not wanting me to know of course.

Ebony: I would say around the age of 5 is when I was introduced to playing sport however it was in baseball first. I made the transition to softball when I was about 8 years old.

What’s one thing about each other's game that you’re envious of?

Wayne: The thing that I am slightly envious of is both girls have a desire to win and are passionate when on the sporting field, no matter what it is. I always played to win, and for enjoyment when playing whereas the girls are probably more invested in the win and the friendships they develop after the game.

Amber: Having only see dad play a handful of games in his prime, I'd have to say his speed. In more recent years though, I'd say I'm more envious of the way he carries himself and is respected by everyone and the connections he makes with players of all ages and skill, with his passion for developing younger players and their love for the game prevailing.

Ebony: I’m envious of my dad’s determination to succeed both as an ex-player and as a coach.

What’s one thing about your daughters’ playing that has impressed you the most?

Wayne: I think that both the girls show respect to their opposition and the game they are involved in most of the time and when I see them out at softball, they seem happy and are respectful to others which makes me feel proud. I love them very much.

What’s one skill that you’d love to pick up from your father?

Amber: Dad's hilarity and intelligence are unmatched. If I could learn to be half the person he is, I would.

Ebony: My dad is incredibly patient and approachable; I hope I can be more like him in that way someday.
