Daniel Cousins & his daughter Millie
When was the first time your father inspired you to take up softball?
Millie: I can vividly remember when my father first introduced me to softball - he asked if I wanted to be a pitcher or catcher. I couldn’t decide so I thought I would try both out. Turned out I liked pitching and the next day we went down to the fields for my first-ever pitching session (which I still have on video) at age 8.
What’s one thing about each other’s game that you’re envious about?
Millie: When I bat off my father in training, he pitches a good curveball.
Daniel: Millie’s ability to throw consistently good pitches regardless of the game’s situation and her unbelievable dedication to training.
What’s the best part about being a father/daughter duo in softball?
Millie: Dad has always coached me but in the last three years, we have been able to play senior mixed together. We look forward to this part of the week as we can relax and play softball for fun, while having a good laugh.
Daniel: I love having someone to talk about the game to and develop new ideas and opinions.
What’s one thing about your daughter’s playing that has impressed you the most?
Daniel: Millie has always played representative softball above her age and has always had a fearless mindset.
What’s one skill that you’d love to pick up from your father?
Millie: My dad knows the softball rules back to front and I think that would be a very valuable skill to have.
