Cumberland Nepean Edge Out Manly Warringah to be Crowned 2022's U12 Girls' State Champions

Published Mon 05 Dec 2022

Seven exciting young teams from around the state came down to Jack Brabham park last weekend to feature in the 2022 Under 12 Girls' State Championship. Hosted by Orange District Softball Association in conjunction with the Boys' tournament, the event featured Cumberland Nepean, Georges River, Hornsby, Manly Warringah, North Shore, Orange and Penrith City.

The two-day event was bustling with crowds that had come down from around the state to watch the young softballers in action - and day 1 provided all the entertainment they could've hoped for and more, with the girls from Manly Warringah asserting their dominance with an unbeaten 4-game record. Day 2 was a continuation of their great run, with two wins securing their spot in the Grand Final. Joining them in the final game of the tournament was Cumberland Nepean who had won 5 out of their 6 group games.

Played at 1:15pm on diamond 1, the Grand Final was also arguably the most exciting from across the two days of the Championship, with Manly Warringah and Cumberland Nepean spending the next hour and fifteen minutes proving how they were above the rest in the tournament - much like how it was when the same two teams faced off in the Grand Final last year. Cumberland Nepean ultimately came out stronger this time, claiming the Championship title with a 9-8 scoreline.
