Published Thu 08 Jul 2021

Tony Jackson has been appointed as Head Coach of the NSW Under 16 Boys' team for 2022 & 2023. He shares his insights on coaching as well as playing at this level.

What does it mean to you to be appointed as the Head Coach of the NSW Under 16 Boys Team?

I’m very honoured to be selected as the Head Coach of The NSW Under 16 Boys Team. This means a great deal to me after 13 years in the system as an assistant coach, I can now share my experience and knowledge through the program to get the boys ready to win a national championship.

What excited you most about your appointment?

Personally, I am excited to represent NSW once again.

With regards to the athlete, I am excited to work with the amazing talent in this age group. They are the future of NSW, and it is my job to set them up for success now, and into the future.

What should potential athletes expect upon entering the Under 16 Boys program?

They should be prepared to work hard. They will be entering the high-performance program. They will be working on fitness, skills and game knowledge.

What advise can you give to aspiring coaches who hope to coach at this level one day?

Keep working on skills. Ask questions of high-performance coaches, continue to keep learning the game. Work your way through the system, for example, regional academies and maybe trainee/assistant coach roles where possible.

Softball NSW would like to congratulate Tony on his appointment. We know he will do a fantastic job.
