COACHING APPOINTMENT: NERIDAH WEARNE – NSW UNDER 16 GIRLS
Published Thu 08 Jul 2021
Neridah Wearne has been appointed as Head Coach of the NSW Under 16 Girls team for 2022 & 2023. She shares her insights on coaching as well as playing at this level.
What does it mean to you to be appointed as the Head Coach of the NSW Under 16 Girls team?
I’m very excited and honored. I’m very proud to be able to coach for NSW.
What excited you most about your appointment?
The thought of actually playing a Nationals this year is exciting! So hopefully there’s a good plan to make that happen! I’m always excited about meeting new players and discovering the talent that we have in NSW.
What should potential athletes expect upon entering the Under 16 Girls program?
My goal is always to work with the athletes to show them how to love playing softball at a higher level. I want them to learn the physical and mental skills that are required to be successful and the national and international levels. So we cover all the basics skills and ensure they are technically correct – and then put them into game situations, and ensure they are able to execute under pressure – and what tools they need to do that.
What advice can you give to aspiring coaches who hope to coach at this level one day?
Find mentors – coaches who know more than you and work with them. Learn from other coaches and senior players. Even if it is daunting or uncomfortable – it’s the best way to learn.
Softball NSW would like to congratulate Neridah on her appointment. We know she will do a fantastic job.
