COACHING APPOINTMENT: CHRIS BROWNLOW – NSW UNDER 23 MEN
Published Tue 06 Jul 2021
Chris Brownlow has been appointed as Head Coach of the NSW Under 23 Men’s team for 2022 & 2023. He shares his insights on coaching as well as playing at this level.
What does it mean to you to be appointed as the Head Coach of the NSW Under 23 Men’s team?
It is always a privilege to represent Softball NSW in any official capacity, but it is an absolute honour to be entrusted with a valued position such as the Head Coach of the NSW U23 Me
What excited you most about your appointment?
NSW is presently fortunate to have a talented group of male athletes in this U23 category, some of whom have already represented Australia in the U19 age group. I am really excited to have an opportunity over the coming 2 years of working with each member of the group during the next stage of their development.
What should potential athletes expect upon entering the Under 23 Men’s program?
Potential athletes and officials that enter the U23 Men’s program over the next 2 years should expect the program will be an interactive environment with a view to development.
Athletes should bring a commitment to the program, a positive attitude, an open mind, a desire to learn and the willingness to make adjustments. They should be ready to share information, to challenge themselves and to accept and apply alternative ideas to that of their own knowledge and skill.
What advice can you give to aspiring coaches who hope to coach at this level one day?
Coaching at this level is all about Knowledge and Trust. In order to achieve this knowledge talk to and learn from other coaches, players and umpires. Complete the necessary courses, Watch games, question training methods, attend workshops, enquire “why” on any unusual aspect of any game. Trust in your own decisions and develop a strong relationship with your team and your players.
Softball NSW would like to congratulate Chris on his appointment. We know he will do a fantastic job.
