COACHING APPOINTMENT: ADAM RINDFLEISH – NSW UNDER 18 BOYS

Published Wed 07 Jul 2021

Adam Rindfleish has been appointed as Head Coach of the NSW Under 18 Boys' team for 2022 & 2023. He shares his insights on coaching as well as playing at this level.

What does it mean to you to be appointed as the Head Coach of the NSW Under 18 Boys' team?

I always feel honoured to be appointed to represent NSW. My passion and dedication to our state comes from seeing the athletes of NSW strive for excellence in their quest to become national champions.

Wearing the Waratah has been a part of my life for nearly 30 years and it is my privilege to wear it again in 2022.

What excited you most about your appointment?

The responsibility of leading our junior athletes. Providing them with the wisdom of knowledge, the benefits of hard work and the skills to set them up for a life as representative softball athletes and as men.

Working with amazing staff that continue the traditions and culture that come with representing NSW. To empower all in the team both athlete and staff to be the best they can be!

What should potential athletes expect upon entering the Under 18 Boys' program?

This year can shape the rest of their playing careers. With a focus not only on fundamental skills but having the opportunity to push themselves to reach higher knowledge, game sense and playing capabilities.

Mediocrity has no place in a NSW team, the benefits of hard work, preparation and dedication to your teammates will be the driving force behind this years team.

All of this with a desire for athletes and staff to enjoy the process and represent NSW with dignity and respect for the game.

What advice can you give to aspiring coaches who hope to coach at this level one day?

Never stop learning. Take every opportunity to talk with coaches, athletes and umpires. Acquire new knowledge and skills by researching, watching games, attending workshops and your own game experiences.

Lead by example and be a good role model. You can only demand excellence if you yourself are striving for it too.

Take the time to reflect. Talk with your athletes and staff, take on board their feedback. Everyone has something to offer in terms of ideas and knowledge.

Use an athlete-centred approach to training and games. No two people are the same, if you want to get the best out of an individual, it’s their journey so be the mentor to them individually as they work collectively in the team.

Be a student of the game!

Softball NSW would like to congratulate Adam on his appointment. We know he will do a fantastic job.
