Campbelltown Boys Remain Undefeated & Win the 2022 U12 State Championship

Published Mon 05 Dec 2022

The recent weekend at Jack Brabham Park was buzzing with a packed audience and parents, some much-needed sun, and most importantly, a promising display of softball by boys who had come down to participate at the 2022 Under 12 Boys' State Championship. Hosted by Orange District Softball Association in conjunction with the Girls' tournament, eight teams of boys from around the state featured in the Championship, namely, Campbelltown, Central Coast, Cumberland Nepean, Georges River, Macarthur, Orange, Penrith City and Southern Districts.

Day 1 featured sixteen games among which Campbelltown's performance stood out, with the boys in red and black winning all four of their games. Cumberland Nepean and Macarthur were impressive too, notching up three wins each in their four games of the day. While Campbelltown continued their dominance the following day with three consecutive wins and a Grand Final berth confirmation, Cumberland Nepean were also able to maintain their momentum from the previous day, registering two wins in three games before advancing to the Grand Final - also making it their second successive Grand Final appearance at this level.

Played right after the conclusion of the Girls' Grand Final which saw Cumberland Nepean take the honours, the final game of the Boys' Championship was held at 3pm on diamond 1, in front of a full house. Cumberland Nepean were quick to take a lead in the game, leading Campbelltown 2-0 by the end of two innings. By the bottom of the third innings, however, the Campbelltown boys began their comeback going onto finish the game at 3-2 by the top of the fifth, with time called on the game.
