The Under 18 Girls are competing this week for the Elinor McKenzie Shield. This year the team will be competing on home soil and are defending their Shield. Captained by Junior Aussie Spirit player Kate Luyten, the team is looking to stay strong in their defence of the shield. With a pool of talent, the girls are confident heading into Nationals.
Head Coach Nikki Morley kept the team sharp getting training games against international teams from China were the girls kept their foot in and were comfortably going toe-to-toe.
Nikki Morely had this to say ahead of the heavily anticipated Nationals:
“As we step onto the field for Nationals, the passion and drive within this team are unmatched. We’ve trained hard, lifted each other higher, and embraced every challenge together as a team. This is our moment to shine, push beyond boundaries, and play with heart, grit, and unwavering pride for our Waratah. Together, we are unstoppable—fuelled by teamwork, determination, and the belief that anything is possible. Let’s leave it all on the field and create memories that will last a lifetime!”
Alice Donohoe - Battery Coach
“Our team has been putting in the work, both mentally and physically, to get ready for nationals. They’ve pushed themselves in training and stayed sharp off the field with recovery and mental prep. Their focus and team spirit are on point, and they’re ready to take on whatever comes their way at nationals.”
Amanda Barrington - Manager
“Looking forward to watching this team play with the passion & determination they have had throughout the preparation for Nationals. The Coaches have developed a strong competitive team wanting to go beyond for each other & our State.”
Andi Lau
“We have worked extremely hard all season to achieve our goals individually and as a team. We've supported and challenged each other in order to gain success throughout the training program and we are ready to leave it all on the field at nationals. I am very proud to be a part of this team and we're all so excited for the week ahead.”
Molly Gill
“As we head into nationals, I am beyond proud of this team and the incredible effort each player has put in. We’ve connected and supported each other every step of the way, pushing ourselves to grow and improve with every training session. With high energy, determination, and a shared commitment to both our individual and team goals, we’re ready to give our best, represent the Waratah with pride, and show just how hard we’ve worked to reach this moment!!”
