2025 Charity Day: Melanoma Institute Australia

Published Sat 15 Feb 2025

Softball NSW is proud to partner with the Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) for a special Charity Weekend, raising awareness about the importance of sun safety while enjoying the sport we love. With Australia having one of the highest rates of melanoma in the world, this event is about more than just softball—it’s about protecting players, coaches, officials, and spectators from the dangers of excessive sun exposure.

Whether you're on the field or in the stands, staying sun-safe is essential. Athletes spend hours training and competing under the sun, making them particularly vulnerable to UV damage. Wearing SPF 50+ sunscreen, sporting a wide-brimmed hat when not playing, and using sunglasses can help protect against harmful rays. But it’s not just the players who need to be mindful—spectators, volunteers, and event staff should also take steps to stay sun-smart. Seeking shade, wearing protective clothing, and reapplying sunscreen regularly can make a huge difference in preventing skin damage.

This Charity Weekend isn’t just about raising funds—it’s about educating our softball community on the importance of sun safety. Through this partnership with MIA, Softball NSW is encouraging everyone to take melanoma seriously and adopt simple sun-safe habits that could save lives. Let’s step up to the plate for a great cause and ensure that softball remains a fun and safe sport for all!

Join us in making a difference—support the Melanoma Institute Australia and help spread the message of sun safety across the softball community.
