Central Coast Council to host Softball NSW Under 10 State Championships
Softball NSW and Central Coast Council are pleased to announce the venue for the Under 10 State Championships, with the Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex in Tuggerah awarded the hosting rights for the annual event in 2021.
Whilst not the home venue for the Central Coast Softball Association, the Complex and Central Coast Council are well equipped for an event such as the State Championships, with planning well underway.
Central Coast Council Director Community and Recreation Services, Julie Vaughan said it is great to see a diverse range of local and national sports coming to the Central Coast for the benefit of the community.
“Since opening, the Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex has already successfully hosted a range of sports including Soccer, Rugby League and Union, Baseball, Oztag, Australian Rules and Touch Football. Having newly installed turf wickets, we welcomed Cricket to the complex last year and now we are delighted to see competitive Softball at a State level added to this list,” Ms Vaughan said.
“It is clear that the complex has already proved itself a wonderful new venue for outdoor sports and we are delighted to have been awarded hosting rights for the Softball NSW Under 10 State Championships. We look forward to working with Softball NSW to put on a great event for all city and regional NSW participants, as well as the 1,200 people expected to attend.”
Central Coast Softball Association President Brad Bogle is looking forward to the opportunity. “Central Coast Softball Association is very proud to be hosting this year’s Under 10 State Championships, together with the Central Coast Council.”
As a long-standing Affiliate with Softball NSW, the Central Coast Softball Association draws players from the peninsula in the south, up to Lake Macquarie in the north. The Association has great participation numbers across age groups, and fantastic community support.
“This Championship is both a fantastic development opportunity for our youngest players in the sport and will also showcase the incredible new facilities at the Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex. Together with the Council we are looking forward to putting on this event whilst promoting the Central Coast and all that it has to offer,” Bogle says.
Softball NSW Chief Executive Officer Daniel Rushworth is very excited by the opportunity. “Some of the great and exciting benefits of our pathway program is the opportunity to travel away with your team and experience a new town, a new community, and create new friends from across the state. The Central Coast is an excellent location for sport and leisure, and I am sure the participants, officials and their families will enjoy it there.”
Rushworth praised the excellent facility and benefits to the local community. “It is also a great opportunity for these young athletes to experience this first-class facility that has been provided by Central Coast Council. The event will return to the Central Coast again in 2022 and this will be of fantastic economic benefit to the local community, and will assist in promoting our sport further and in turn assist Central Coast Softball Association and their clubs.”
The Under 10 State Championships is the first event on the junior athlete representative pathway, where players and Associations from right across NSW can pit themselves against each other in both a fun and competitive atmosphere.
The 2021 Under 10 State Championships will be held on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 May 2021.
