Media & Communications Officer commences with SNSW

Softball NSW would like to announce Andrew McMurtry as the Softball NSW Media and Communications Officer.

Andrew started at the beginning of January ahead of the U17 and U19 National Championships, as well as the Asia Pacific Cup.

Previously, Andrew was a sports journalist with Fairfax Community Media in western Sydney. He was a strong supporter of Softball in his time with the newspapers, covering several of national and state championships events, the Blue Blaze tournament and working closely with Cumberland Nepean Softball Association.

He said he is eager to help get Softball into the media more often.

“It is great to be on board with Softball NSW with so much potential for stories out there,” Andrew said. “Having been covering Softball NSW as a journalist for some time now, it’s been great to see the community spirit of the sport that just seemingly comes naturally to everyone. It’s a real Softball family. While I have loved talking with athletes, the community events and charity focus of the sport is inspiring and I look forward to helping every association get great stories into the media.”

The Media and Communications Officer role with Softball NSW is a new role and Andrew will be working closely with affiliates to help develop media plans and assist with working with local, regional and metropolitan journalists to further promote Softball.

Andrew will be contacting associations in the near future but for any questions, enquiries or pressing media needs before he gets in touch, please contact Andrew at
