Manly Warringah has defended their title by winning the 2017 NSW Women’s State Championship over the weekend.
Manly Warringah and North Shore came out on top of their respective pools and waited to find out who they would play in the all important game to go into the Grand Final. North Shore proved too strong for the Penrith City team 14 – 5 to move through to the Grand Final. Manly Warringah didn’t have it all their own way against a determined Cumberland Nepean side who led for the most of the game before the game was forced into a tie breaker. Manly Warringah ran out winners 6-5 to gain a position in the decider.
The Grand Final remained tight with Manly Warringah scoring a run in the 1st and the 3rd inning, North Shore out hit Manly Warringah 5 hits to 4 but it was errors that let North Shore down with Manly Warringah scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th and North Shore not being able to score in the top of the 5th. The final score was 8 – 0.
Thank you to the volunteers who helped out during the event in the canteen, entertainment and grounds.
The Baserunning completion winner was Brittany Cogan from Manly Warringah and the Lucky Player Draw winner was Aimee Walker from Southern Districts, both players won an Easton Bat.
