Manly Warringah Open Womens Champions

Manly Warringah Open Womens Champions

The 2016 Open Women’s State Champions is Manly Warringah.

Following on from being named as Affiliate of the Year Manly Warringah travelled to Lismore to see if they could take out the title and came away very satisfied with a hard fought win.

The competition for the top 2 spots was intense with no-one guaranteed of a place until the last game of the 2nd round where Manly defeated Cumberland Nepean.

The grand final, Manly Warringah v Penrith City was a great game! With no runs being scored by the 6th, Penrith City took the lead with a massive home run by Taylah Tsitsikronis! Manly Warringah retaliated with a run with a hit by Lisa Carlton to score Linley Somerville. With the scores locked at 1 – 1, the 8th innings tie breaker saw Manly Warringah not score in the top of the inning and Penrith City were in a good position to score but pitcher Alli Edgtton held her nerve to stop any chance of a run.  Manly Warringah took the lead in the top on the of the 9th with Jenna Trim scoring, Penrith City was given another chance to score in the 9th but the defence from Manly Warringah was first class.

Congratulations to Eliza Murphy (Pitching award), Jasmine Peters (batting award) and Taylah Tsitsikronis (MVP) who took out the Individual Awards.

Thank you to Far North Coast Softball Association for putting on great weather and hosting an amazing championship.
