Manly Warringah & Georges River take the U12 Title

The U12 State Championships were hosted by the Penrith City Softball Association grounds and what a weekend it was. The Penrith City Volunteers were outstanding in particular to be able to have the grounds ready after heavy rain on Thursday night was amazing. Well done and thank you.

The Male Final saw Georges River face off with Southern Districts. After the pool rounds Georges River finished on top of the ladder and took to the field first. The Southern Districts bats came out firing with the lead off batter getting on with a hard hit double to the outfield. A single to centrefield and some nimble base running and fielding jitters saw Southern Districts jump out to a 2-0 lead.

With the start of the 2nd innings the Districts batters came out swinging hard, but the River boys buoyed by a great catch in the outfield rallied and shut the innings down.  The middle order worked well for River with two singles getting the rally started and then the next 5 batters combined to move the runners around tie up the game at 2 all.

The 3rd innings was where Georges River made the difference with a great catch in the field and then a triple to start the innings followed by some team hitting to bring in more runs.

Southern Districts in a never say die attitude came out swinging hard but where unable to drag back the three run lead before time and the Georges River team got the better of them in a great and fitting Grand Final.
