Cumberland Nepean and Southern Districts take out Under-11 titles

Both the boys and girls under-11 state championships have new champions with wins to Cumberland Nepean in the girls and Southern Districts in the boys competition.

Cumberland Nepean broke the streak of two-time defending champions Manly, while Southern Districts won their first under-11s title after coming from third to claim the victory.

Cumberland Nepean went undefeated through the tournament but Manly were keen to continue its amazing record. In the past nine competitions, Manly had won eight titles.

The sides played out a 7-6 result in the final round of the round robin matches with Cumberland Nepean coming out in front. It was Manly’s second loss in the early rounds, pushed to third on the ladder following a 16-12 loss to Penrith City.

North Shore clung to fourth leading into the semi-finals but were knocked out following a 15-5 loss to Manly. In the major semi-final, Cumberland Nepean defeated Penrith City 11-9. Manly then defeated Penrith 21-16 to book its place in the final against Cumberland.

After going undefeated throughout the competition, Cumberland proved too strong in the final with an 8-6 win over Manly.
