The NSW men and Queensland women have remained undefeated after four days of the under-19s national championships but it’s been a moving day for other teams.
Victoria saw success in with the women’s taking two wins to move into outright third, while the men defeated Western Australia to ensure it would stay in fourth and build a four-point buffer over Western Australia in fifth.
With the women’s preliminary rounds set to wrap up tomorrow night ahead of the first finals on Saturday, Queensland all but wrapped up first place. Having conceded just three runs in the competition, it would take a huge change of fortune for NSW – with 20 runs against and two wins behind – to snatch the minor premiership. The battle for third and fourth is still alive with Victoria (8), South Australia (6), ACT (4) and Western Australia (2) separated by a matter of points with just two games left.
The men have four games remaining each but NSW are six points ahead and will look to wrap up first place tomorrow. Queensland and the ACT will look to snatch second place when they play off tomorrow at 2pm on diamond four. Despite Western Australia still to win a match, Victoria will have to be weary to hold on to fourth place.
The focus will be turning to finals with Australia Day set to be an important day in sealing the teams’ finals fates.
