It’s finals time in the under-17s national championships and in good news for the Bluebloods – NSW is straight through to both grand finals.
The girls defeated Queensland 4-1 to maintain its perfect record this year, before the boys ended Queensland’s unbeaten run with a 3-1 win.
For the NSW girls, Sasha Willems’ two RBIs proved very important, while Emily Peters was great on the mound, conceding just one run and six hits while striking out seven in seven innings. It means NSW could potentially win a fifth straight under-17s title. NSW will take on either Queensland or Western Australia, after WA defeated the ACT 4-0 in the minor semi-final.
NSW made short work of Western Australia earlier in the day with a 10-0 win.
For the boys, two runs in the first innings was the difference with Queensland unable to make up the ground. Jeremy Garland was great from the mound, holding what had been a rampant Queensland team up to this point to four hits and, most importantly, just one run.
Earlier in the day, NSW completed two huge wins with a 15-0 drubbing of the ACT and 12-1 result against Western Australia.
The final day of the under-17s national championships will kick off with the girls, then the boys preliminary finals before the grand final of each and the closing ceremony.
