State Leaguers enjoying break before tight end to competitions

The Softball NSW State League competition has passed the halfway mark with shortened rounds in the middle of the season.

From September 9, the Softball NSW AGM saw a shortened week of action, a week off during the under-15s girls state championship on September 15 and 16.

One round of men’s action was held on Sunday ahead of the open women’s state championship this weekend before the final three rounds of the season and the playoffs throughout October.

The men’s State League is set for an exciting sprint to the finish with just three points separating fourth and seventh, while Dolphins still have Tropics snapping at their heels at the top of the ladder.

The Northern Storm are on top of the women’s side of the draw after pushing past the Manly Eagles in second with the Panthers keeping close in third. Hills is still chasing its first win of the season with Sharks sitting pretty in fourth.

All games in State League will be played at Blacktown International Sportspark on Sundays with the next round on October 7 and will run until finals weekend on October 28.

Men’s

As the men passed the halfway point of the competition, we’re in for a great finish to the regular season. With Dolphins and Tropics fighting for the minor premiership, five points separate third and seventh and three points between fourth and seventh.

A technical forfeit saw United fall out of the top four but they are on the same points and just one run against behind Mounties in fourth.

Women’s

The season has become a lot more interesting after the last round of women’s games with Panthers pulling off an upset against the Manly Eagles. The loss saw the Eagles fall from the top spot, which was snapped up by Northern Storm’s pair of wins over Hills and Sharks. Panthers moved into third after a second win over Hills.

After eight rounds, it sets up an interesting run for the minor premiership with Northern Storm, Manly Eagles and Panthers all still in contention.
