Southern Districts have defended their Over 35 Men’s State Championship Title after having to come through the hard way after finishing 3rd after the rounds.
Macarthur went into the playoffs on top after winning all their games and having a draw against Southern Districts in the rounds.
Macarthur proved too strong for Cumberland Nepean in the Major Semi Final running out winners 14-9 and then waited to see who would be their opponents in the Grand Final. In a tight Preliminary Final Southern Districts proved too strong for Cumberland Nepean in a tight game 6-2 to book a spot in the final.
The Southern Districts boys showed why they are the best team in this division by showcasing some strong pitching combined with consistent hitting to take out the final 5-2. Southern Districts had no less than 8 former NSW Representatives in their team and showed that they haven’t lost much of their skill. The Macarthur men should be proud of the way they played the entire weekend and certainly were a force to be reckoned with and will come back next year even hungrier for the win.
Another highlight of the weekend was Hornsby fielding their first male team at a State Championship.
