The NSW Teams played some awesome Softball at the National Championships on Day 4.
The Firestars were simply outstanding in their game against Queensland Heat. The game started with a Rachel Lack home run on the 5th pitch of the game then Stacey Porter followed up with a 2 run home run 2 batters later but the Firestars were not finished. Tsitsikronnis, Keevers, Kearnes, Iuliano, Cox all had hits before Stacey Porter homered again with a Grand Slam. The 1st inning ended with the Heat 10 runs behind. Tsitsikronis (double), Kearnes, Lack (double), and Porter all continued to dominate the Heat pitchers with Kaia Parnaby doing the job on the mound only allowing 1 hit before the game was called after the 4th inning.
Game 2 for the Firestars was against WA Flames who were sitting 4th on the ladder. The Firestars got on the board in the 2nd inning with Cox and Abrahams hitting a single each before rookie Tarni Stepto put the ball over the fence. Rachel Lack stepped up to the plate and homered on the 1st pitch of the 3rd inning and then Stacey Porter cleared the fence for another home run. Cox, Moore, Keevers (triple), McManus and Iuliano all had hits to help NSW to a 9-2 win.
In a dominant 1st inning NSW U17 Women put 6 runs on the board against Queensland with hits from Baker, Mighell, Walker and Lennon, Queensland replied with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. NSW then ensured the win with runs in each of the remaining 3 innings. The safe hits continued with Connacher, MacKean, Walker (2), Baker, Mighell, Arnott and Lennon all reaching base for a final score of 12-2.The last game of the day saw NSW up against WA. The Blues has a great 15-0 win in 3 innings. Hits to Connacher (3), Gunn, Mighell (double), Wrixon (2) and Armstrong.
The NSW U17 Men finished Day 4 with a clean slate with a 11-0 win over Queensland and a 15-0 win over WA. Game 1 was highlighted by 3 home runs in the 2nd inning to Roberts, Field and Lowe with Field hitting his 2nd home run for the game in the 3rd inning. Other hits for the game came from Banks (2), Keed, Gleeson, Lowe (double) and Shaw. NSW started game 2 with a bang piling on 12 runs in the 1st inning with home runs to Kirgan and Shaw and hits to Garland, Hunter, Becquet (double & single) and Roberts. Further hits to Garland, Kirgan and a double for Beach in the 2nd took the tally to 15 for the game which was called in the 3rd inning. Jack Davies pitched the 3 innings with no hits.
The U15 Regionals continued on Day 4 with Metro Orange remaining undefeated with wins over Country Gold 8-2 and Qld Fire 7-4. Country Gold had a good day with a win over SA Blue 15-8 before their loss to Orange. Green had a win against WA Gold 8-4 and then another against WA White.
